Dr. Sanford
Avner
|
Dr. Sanford "Sandy" Avner has been practicing as an allergy and asthma specialist in the greater Denver area for more than 30 years. He provides medical care for patients from all over the world.
After graduating from Yale University and medical school at State University of New York, Dr. Avner began graduate training in Pediatrics. He then served our country as an officer in the United States Air Force, where he was Chief of Pediatrics and Chief of Outpatient Services at a large Air Force base hospital.
After fulfilling his military commitment, Dr. Avner came to Colorado and began fellowship training in allergy and immunology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) and National Jewish Hospital. His special interest and clinical research activities focused on pharmacological management of asthma and rescue medications.
Post fellowship training, Dr. Avner maintained his faculty positions with UCHSC and National Jewish Hospital while at the same time developing a private practice to ensure longitudinal care for people suffering from allergic disorders. During that time, he also founded the nonprofit Breathe Better Foundation.
Dr. Avner is widely respected as an expert in the field of allergy, asthma and immunology. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, a co-joint Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics.
In 2004, Dr. Avner embarked on his new practice at Sky Ridge Medical Center to be closer to his two physician sons, David and Marc, and his five grandchildren. He celebrates more than 30 years of marriage to Susan.

Dr. Lora Stewart
|
Dr. Lora Stewart who recently joined Allergy & Asthma Care and Prevention Center, is welcomed with pride after practicing in the Denver area for several years. Her training has included graduating with high honors from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and completing her residency training at the University of Colorado and Children’s Hospital. After residency, she finished her Fellowship in Allergy & Immunology at National Jewish Medical and Research Center and is Board Certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology. Her research interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, with additional expertise in the areas of allergic skin disorders, food allergies, nasal/sinus disorders, and immunodeficiency. In addition to caring for patients of all ages, Dr. Stewart continues to promote her specialty by writing in journals and textbooks.
Lora grew up in Pennsylvania and has lived in the Denver area since 2001, with her husband (John), daughter (Delaney), and an energetic Golden Retriever (Jack), all of whom love the outdoors and the wonderful Colorado ambiance. |
Jennifer Bane, MS,PA-C

Jennifer Bane, MS, PA-C,
joined the Allergy & Asthma Care and Prevention Center in May of 2006 from Washington State, where she had been practicing in the field of allergy for over 2 years. Jennifer was trained as a Physician Assistant at one of the premier programs in the country, Baylor College of Medicine, where she earned a Master of Science degree in 2000. She was subsequently certified by the National Commission of Physician Assistants and has been actively practicing ever since. The conferring of her PA degree added to her already accomplished educational and research history, as Jennifer also holds a Masters of Education in General Counseling and has substantial research experience in neuroscience and asthma. Her work in neuroscience was conducted at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and her asthma research at National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver. Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family and playing golf and tennis. |
Jessica Gustafson, MS, PA-C

Jessica Gustafson, MS, PA-C, has been with Allergy & Asthma Care and Prevention Center since February 2007. She is originally from Iowa and has lived in Colorado for 8 years. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.S. in Microbiology. After moving to Colorado, she worked at National Jewish Hospital doing medical research in asthma. Then she attended the Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program at the University of Colorado and graduated in 2006. During the program, she specialized in the areas of asthma/allergy and general pediatrics. We are proud to announce she completed her Master of Science degree in 2008. She is married to her husband of 5 years, Matt, and they have one cat, Samantha. |
